In the wake of Veli Mothwa's goalkeeping error against Uganda last week, Ronwen Williams has backed his Bafana Bafana teammate.
Bafana's stalemate against the Cranes last Friday at Orlando Stadium was tough for Mothwa between the sticks.
In what should have been a fairly routine save, the ball slipped through the AmaZulu FC goalkeeper's hands, leading to the visitors' second goal.
As a result of Williams' injury, Mothwa was selected ahead of Orlando Pirates' Sipho Chaine and SuperSport United's Ricardo Goss.
The Mamelodi Sundowns star told 947's MSW on Monday night that he was confident the 33-year-old would bounce back.
"What I liked about it was that right after that, he was himself again." said Williams.
Maybe he has learned over the years - and I have learned - that when I make a mistake, I dwell on it and make another one.
It's more experience, so you just let it go, you forget about it and you focus on the next action. Because if you let your focus wane... It's still 2-1, you are still in the game. That point is important."
I was glad to see him just being himself after that and playing the game. I feel for him because this was an opportunity for him to play.
It was difficult for him too. He hasn't played a competitive game [for AmaZulu], hasn't played a competitive game in a very long time, like all of us.
I know he'll be strong and he'll overcome it, and I know how supportive the coach [Hugo Broos] is of us as a team and as individuals... and how much he loves Veli.
Gqeberha native said he knows he will put his arm around him and make him feel like a part of the team.
For Bafana's second match against South Sudan, Mothwa was replaced by Chaine, where Broos' men won 3-2 in Central/East Africa.
