Chippa United have inquired about Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Sibongiseni Mthethwa's availability.
Several weeks ago, Mthethwa was set to join AmaZulu FC.
However, Usuthu refused to sign defender Riaan Hanamub as part of a swap deal with the Soweto giants.
It does not appear that Nasreddine Nabi is planning to include the former Stellenbosch FC player in his plans for the upcoming season, which begins on Saturday.
The Chiefs have already signed Njabulo Blom from MLS side St. Louis City in order to bolster their midfield in what will be an important season.
The Amakhosi look forward to reviving their glory days where they were known as the cup kings of South African football with Blom and Yusuf Maart.
Mthethwa's services have already been offered to the Glamour Boys by Chippa, according to a source close to the club.
AmaZulu were interested, but wanted Hanamub as part of a swap deal. Chippa have expressed interest, but are still waiting for Chiefs to respond,” revealed the source.
The Chilli Boys are also closing in on Orlando Pirates midfielder Siphelo Baloni, according to SABC Sport.
At Orlando Stadium next Wednesday, Chippa take on the Buccaneers in their first Betway Premiership match of the season.
