Chippa United chairman Siviwe 'Chippa' Mpengesi responded exclusively to KickOff regarding allegations made against Boy Madingwane, the club's new signing.
A three-year contract has been signed by the Chilli Boys with the 22-year-old exciting player.
Khurishi Mphahlele, the chairman of Baroka FC, has since disputed the signing, accusing them of trying to 'steal' their player.
Last season, Madingwane played in the relegation/promotion play-offs for the second-tier side.
"I am still going to speak to Baroka's chair. In most cases, we talk to a player, who says, "Here's my agent." We then speak to the agent, who says, "The player is available". "We sign the contract, and then the clearance is sent," Mpengesi says.
Later on, you hear there are problems. It's so unfortunate for me, as I believe there is a lie between the player and Baroka.
It is impossible for me to point fingers at anyone from where I sit. I don't know who is telling the truth here and who isn't. But I know there is someone who isn't telling the truth.
I am in a very unfortunate position at the moment; I'm caught in the middle," adds the Chilli Boys' leader.
Mpengesi clarifies that he has no issue with Baroka.
If there was an option, then surely the player and the agent would not deny it. Baroka has commented on this, but I don't know who to trust here.
The problem is that I'm a victim because I've signed the contract, paid the signing-on fees and he's already got a two-month salary and accommodation.
There is a problem here because the league is starting this week, and the player is not available. But then you have to buy the player from Baroka because the player denies the contract or option, and the agent is also denying...
The problem isn't between Chippa and Baroka. It's between the player, the agent, and Baroka.
I have done business with Khurishi in the past, since his first goalkeeper during their Vodacom League days [Veli Mothwa]. But what would make me pay now if there is no proof?
'Chippa' concludes, "So that's where I am now, in the same position as you. I don't know who to believe.".
