Bafana Bafana's coach Hugo Broos addressed questions over Bafana Bafana's recent record of just one victory in five matches ahead of their second 2025 AFCON qualifier against South Sudan.
As they face South Sudan on Tuesday afternoon away from home, Broos' team will be hoping for their only win in six outings.
It's important to consider the calibre of the opposition when assessing Bafana's record since they returned from the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year.
Over their last six matches, they've played a 1-1 draw away to Andorra, a 3-3 draw away to Algeria, a 1-1 draw away to Nigeria, a 3-1 win over Zimbabwe at home, and a 2-2 draw against Uganda at home.
The Belgian said the results should not be viewed out of context at the pre-match press conference.
Broos replied when asked about Bafana's recent form, "I said we would play against a tough opponent.".
The draws [against Andorra, Algeria, Nigeria, Uganda] need to be viewed from a different perspective. We didn't play against the worst African teams, but against the best African teams. For example, these are all teams in the top 10 [of the FIFA rankings for CAF national teams], and we played away from home.
It has nothing to do with our qualities or the fact that we didn't play well. For example, Algeria and Nigeria are not at home; we played away. These are top 10 teams.
The opposite was true, we played a very good game against Nigeria, Algeria, and all the other teams."
At 15:00, Bafana will play Uganda.
