IF Elfsborg manager Stefan Andreasson has revealed that the club released TImothy Ouma (left) for personal reasons, not for international duty.

After setting off for 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualification duty, an African star went missing.

Kenya drew 0-0 with Zimbabwe in their opening Group J match on Friday without Timothy Ouma.

Prior to the current international break, the 20-year-old's club, IF Elfsborg, announced on social media that the player would be representing his country.

As a result, the attacking midfielder was absent from the national team, and he is also expected to miss the Harambee Stars' game against Namibia on Tuesday night.

Elfsborg manager Stefan Andreasson has since explained that Ouma was given some time off for personal reasons.

According to Pulse Sports, the coach told Swedish outlet Fotbollskanalen, "We gave him time off before the national team meeting so he could sort out some personal matters at home before returning after the break."

In addition, Andreasson explained that the Allsvenskan outfit cannot be blamed for the player's absence.

The discussions between Timothy and Kenya are not our issue. We have been in touch with him, and he will be back here shortly."

Further, the Kenyan's club blocked his move to another European club, which is said to have unnerved him.

His transfer situation upset him, and may have contributed to his refusal to represent his national side.
