In their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, Bafana Bafana defeated South Sudan 3-2 late in the second half.

After the draw against Uganda on Friday, Bafana dropped Veli Mothwa in favor of Sipho Chaine, while Thapelo Morena earned a recall.

As expected, the team trailed after 15 minutes when Tito Okello scored from the penalty spot after Siyabonga Ngezana was sent off for bringing him down.

With his first goal for Bafana, Oswin Appollis dropped off the shoulder at the near post and slotted into the far post from the tightest of angles.

Due to an injury, Jackson Morgan was unable to continue, and William Gama was introduced.

Prior to halftime, Morena's close-range shot off Aubrey Modiba's cutback led to a goal-line clearance, then his follow-up struck the woodwork.

Following a loose ball in the box, Appollis worked an angle and fired in from a tight angle to give Bafana the lead on the stroke of halftime.

12 minutes from the break, Sudan came back with a goal from Valentino Yuel, who nicked possession in the area off Ngezana.

It wasn't all bad for Bafana, who pressed forward in hope of going ahead, but substitute Elias Mokwana failed to deliver.

After a loose ball, Thalente Mbatha pushed to the edge of the box and drilled in the bottom corner to seal the victory.

To finish second in Group K, Bafana survived the final few minutes ahead of fulltime.

The following line-ups have been confirmed:

Those from South Africa are Chaine, Mudau, Ngezana, Dortley, Modiba, Sithole, Mokoena, Zwane, Appollis, Morena, Foster.

The following substitutes were used: Mothwa, Goss, Mobbie, Basadien, Mbatha, Adams, Mofokeng, Maswanganyi, Rayners, Mokwana, Kekana, Sibisi.
