In the past two 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Uganda and South Sudan, Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has found an excuse for the national team's erratic performances.
Thalente Mbatha, on his Bafana debut, netted a late equalizer to salvage a 2-2 draw in the opening qualifier at Orlando Stadium in Soweto last Friday.
The team faced a similar situation against South Sudan on Tuesday, with the score tied at 2-2.
During Tuesday's game at Juba National Stadium, Mbatha emerged as the hero with a late goal that gave South Africa all three points.
During either match, Broos acknowledged that the team did not perform at its best, particularly against South Sudan.
Due to the lack of competitive matches for many players in his team, as the domestic league has not yet begun, he attributed these subpar performances.
