South Africa celebrates after scoring a goal during the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifier match between South Africa and Uganda at Orlando Stadium on September 6, 2024 in Johannesburg.

Coach Hugo Broos has revealed he will make changes when Bafana Bafana face South Sudan in Juba on Tuesday (3pm SA time).

SA almost suffered a first defeat under Broos in an official home match on Friday, when Uganda took a surprise 2-1 lead only for Thalente Mbatha to save Bafana's blushes with a late equaliser to ensure a point. In order to take control of a group led by Congo-Brazzaville, which beat South Sudan in its opening match, Bafana will need to win.

At Orlando Stadium, either Ricardo Goss or Sipho Chaine will replace Veli Mothwa after the latter's glaring blunder gifted Uganda what looked like a winner until substitute Mbatha scored deep in stoppage time.

The berths that Oswin Appollis and Elias Mokwana occupied could be filled by Thapelo Morena and Relebohile Mofokeng after they came off the bench on Friday.

In contrast, it does not appear likely that Broos will substitute Sphephelo Sthole for Mbatha in the starting lineup. Bafana arrived in Juba via Ethiopia at midday on Sunday.

Broos said after the Uganda match, "We will try to find a solution on Tuesday... but you can be sure there will be changes in the team that's for sure."

"It's not a nice thing when a goalkeeper makes that mistake [referring to Mothwa's error, when he couldn't handle Roger Mato's shot which ended up a goal from nowhere] and OK, it's 1-1 but as a keep, you know what you did wrong and we could have lost the game.

Broos did not hide that he was disappointed that they only managed a point at home against The Cranes, saying they must win at all costs in Juba. Congo finished first in Group K after beating South Sudan 1-0 at home on Thursday, while Bafana and Uganda finished second and third respectively.

"I am disappointed that we only have a point, but now we have more reasons to win against South Sudan," Broos said.
