A 0-0 draw against University of Pretoria on August 25 followed by a 1-0 win over Venda FC five days later kept Ernst Middendorp's side unbeaten in the 2024-25 Motsepe Foundation Championship.
Check out how the Urban Warriors performed during their first two matches of their previous three seasons in the National First Division.
In 2020-2021
As Cape Town Spurs introduced themselves to the 2020-21 season with a new name and logo, they won 1-0 over Richards Bay thanks to Abednego Mosiatlhaga's 80th-minute goal, but lost by the same score three days later to Marumo Gallants. With 57 points, Calvin Marlin led the team to a second-place finish, but missed out on promotion in the play-offs.
The year 2021-2022
After drawing 0-0 with Venda FC and losing 2-0 to Polokwane City, Urban Warriors made a stuttering start under Dylan Deane. As a result of poor results, he parted ways with the club in October and Shaun Bartlett took over. It took him just five games to lose, but too many draws (15) caused the team to finish in 14th place with 33 points.
The years 2022-2023
With Ashley Cupido's equaliser in the 62nd minute salvaged a point against Pretoria Callies, Spurs finally began to gel under Bartlett the following season. Following the 1-1 draw, Spurs secured a 2-0 victory over Magesi when Moosa added his name to the scoresheet along with Cupido. In the Motsepe Foundation Championship, Cupido scored 15 goals to help the Urban Warriors finish second and be promoted after winning the playoffs.
