Inacio Miguel at Kaizer Chiefs, Gilberto at Orlando Pirates, and Carlinhos at Cape Town City add to a relatively small list of Angolans in the Premier Soccer League.
Although Angola has long been a nation that produces talented footballers, as highlighted by its appearance at the 2006 World Cup, there have been relatively few players from the country.
Angolans who have previously played in the South African league are listed on SuperSport.com.
ARMANDO (HELLENIC)
The forward played two PSL seasons in Cape Town with Hellenic, starting in 1996-97. He scored once in 38 starts in all competitions, but proved underwhelming. He made 57 appearances in all but left at the end of the campaign. He scored one goal in a 2-1 loss to Wits University in February 1998. After joining African Wanderers, he was also uninspiring and became a Namibian coach after retiring from football.
ANTONIO CORREIA (AJAX CAPE TOWN)
The forward had played in the Netherlands and Finland before arriving at Ajax (now Cape Town Spurs) in August 2011. Ajax beat Kaizer Chiefs 2-1 in September 2011 and he made a single substitution appearance for 19 minutes. He left the team in January the following January.
JOSE DE OLIVEIRA (SUPERSPORT UNITED)
As a striker for SuperSport United in the second half of the 2013-14 season, Jose De Oliveira did not score a goal in seven appearances (three starts), and was quickly released after the season ended. Since then, he has played for 12 more teams in his journeyman career and was last seen playing at Sao Salvador in Brazil.
HUGO MARQUES (CAPE TOWN CITY)
Former Cape Town City goalkeeper Hugo Marques had a successful stint with the team before suddenly departing for his home country. At 38 years old, he continues to play for Petro Atletico. During his time at City in the 2021-22 season, Marques was able to secure a starting position ahead of Darren Keet upon the latter's return from injury. Despite playing 37 matches and being a solid performer, Marques requested to leave due to personal reasons and quickly joined Petro. Despite his absence, City was able to maintain their success thanks to Keet's consistency in goal.
JO PACIENCIA (CAPE TOWN CITY)
Jo was brought in for the 2023-24 season to add some muscle up front and play the number nine role in the team but spent most of the campaign on the bench and has since left the club. With eight starts and 16 substitute appearances, he scored two goals, but he wasn't able to solve City's problem of troublesome midfielders.
JOSE PEREIRA (SUPERSPORT UNITED)
PEREIRA (SUPERSPORT UNITED) In 2009-10, SuperSport brought him in and he helped Matsatsantsa win the league, but he failed to impress with one goal scored in 12 appearances (six starts). In a 1-1 draw with Moroka Swallows, he scored his only goal.
