Itumeleng Khune faces a major career choice at Naturena, where his main skills set is overlooked.

At the beginning of last term, Khune contradicted Amakhosi statements, saying he wants to play for at least a few more years, despite the club insisting it was his 'last contract'.

He is currently out of contract and instead of using his skill-set as a shot-stopper, perhaps preparing him to become a goalkeeper coach, Chiefs are only proposing to him an ambassadorial role, which would come with a huge salary cut, since the job is so sporadic.

Khune would have been a great asset to the team after 25 years at the club and close to 100 Bafana Bafana caps.

In spite of this, the club appears to have cast him out into the wilderness as he has yet to accept an "ambassadorial role", which would take him further away from the green grass.

It's a busy time for us right now, and we're planning key meetings for next week to discuss his role as an ambassador. As a Chiefs Marketing Director Jessica Motaung recently told Newzroom Afrika, "I'm just back from overseas and I just studied the international models in terms of ambassadorial roles players have played, and I'm very excited about what Itu can do."

We have been in good discussions, and I'm hoping we can find a way forward." "I also see a lot from him in the podcast space and other [media] spaces because he's got such immense talent. Not just at the football level, but he's also been around the business of football, so I'm glad we're in good discussions."

In addition, Motaung was asked if Khune agreed to such proposals, as the veteran may wish to continue playing.

"I think Itu understands that this is the next stage he's going through, and I think our discussions will be fruitful," she said.

Kennedy Mweene joined Mamelodi Sundowns as a goalkeeper coach last season after a decade at Chloorkop.

Additionally, Orlando Pirates recently hired Siyabonga Mpontshane as an assistant goalkeeper coach after nine years with the club.

After being regarded as one of the best players, let alone a goalkeeper to be produced in the country, Khune appears to have been denied the opportunity to impart his knowledge and experience to the current and future generation of Chiefs shot-stoppers, as well as outfield players.
