The SuperSport United coach will reach 1 000 matches as a coach in top flight football later this season.
With SuperSport United, Hunt has already begun his 27th consecutive season as a coach with a South African club.
It was the 60-year-old coach's 978th game in charge when they lost to holders Orlando Pirates in the quarterfinal of the MTN8.
For him to reach 1000, he needs to play 22 more matches this season, both in league and cup competition.
Since joining Seven Stars in 1998/99, Hunt has played for Hellenic, Black Leopards, Moroka Swallows, SuperSport, Bidvest Wits, Kaizer Chiefs, Chippa United and SuperSport once more.
When he was at Wits in the 2019-20 season, Hunt broke Gordon Igesund's record of 816 games played in the top flight by a cooch.
Since then, he has amassed a total of 978 wins, 282 draws, and 289 losses.
A 1-0 away win at Moroka Swallows was Hunt's first top flight win as coach of Seven Stars, a club he promoted from the NFD with Benni McCarthy as their star player.
As Coach of the Year in 2001-02, Hunt made his mark with the newly promoted Black Leopards. He has since won the award four more times.
When he moved from Moroka Swallows to SuperSport United in his 10th season in charge, he set a new standard when he won three titles in a row from 2008 to 2010. His fourth title came at Wits in 2017.
He has also won all three cups - the Nedbank Cup, the League Cup when it was called Telkom Knockout and the MTN8. Hunt made his playing debut as a 17-year-old schoolboy for Hellenic in 1981.
