Newly signed Kaizer Chiefs player Inacio Miguel has detailed how Amakhosi sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr. and former Cape Town City goalkeeper Hugo Marques swayed him to join the Soweto giants.
Chiefs signed Miguel from Angolan giants Petro de Luanda on a three-year deal in a bid to return to the top of South African and African football.
At the weekend, Amakhosi supporters will see the 28-year-old defender/midfielder, who holds dual citizenship of Portugal and Angola, in action for the club.
Chiefs take on Marumo Gallants at 15:00 on Saturday at Free Stadium in Bloemfontein in their opening match.
Miguel, who played his football in Portugal, Romania and Latvia, rejected lucrative offers from Algeria and Tunisia to join the Premier Soccer League.
He insisted the move wasn't motivated by money since he wouldn't have joined the PSL if it was.
During our conversation, Kaizer mentioned a project that made me realize that they plan to do something big in the future.
After winning everything with Petro in those two years, I felt I needed a new challenge, and what better than Kaizer Chiefs?
I moved here because of the giants' desire to start something different and of course the future and the project.
A conversation with Petro's shot-stopper Marques also contributed to his move to South Africa, according to the versatile player.
Before moving to Angola, Marques played for City in the PSL between 2021 and 2022.
He told me not to think twice about it, Kaizer Chiefs are a big club in South Africa and Africa, and they are world renowned.
There is no better club to join if I want something different in my career and a new challenge.
I'm glad Hugo Marques (convinced) me to come here. I'm also happy.
