He follows another 2019 World Cup winner, Elton Jantjies, who's been found to have used illegal substances.

During the 2019 World Cup, South African Sibusiso Nkosi tested positive for an anabolic steroid, his club, the Cheetahs, announced on Monday.

According to an official of the Cheetahs, who requested anonymity because he is not an official spokesman, Sbu was banned for three years after a World Rugby test in May.

According to South African media reports, his sample contained traces of an anabolic steroid commonly used by bodybuilders.

As the second 2019 champion to be barred for doping, the 28-year-old winger understudied Cheslin Kolbe at the World Cup.

The Cheetahs confirmed on Monday that South African 2019 World Cup winner Sibusiso Nkosi has been banned for three years after testing positive for an anabolic steroid.

The Cheetahs official, who requested anonymity because he is not an official spokesman, told AFP that Sbu was banned for three years after a World Rugby test in May.

There were traces of an anabolic steroid in his sample, and he was suspended until July 15, 2027, according to South African media reports.

Having understudied Cheslin Kolbe at the World Cup in Japan, the 28-year-old is the second 2019 champion to be banned for doping.

Last January, flyhalf Elton Jantjies was suspended for four years for using a banned substance.

Captaincy of invitation side to face Cheetahs handed to Du Toit

During his 16 international appearances, Nkosi scored nine Test tries. He made his first appearance against England in 2018 and his last against New Zealand in 2019.

In 2022, he suffered mental health challenges while playing for the Bulls, and disappeared for several weeks, sparking a police search before being found at a relative's house.

Nkosi joined the Bloemfontein-based Cheetahs on a one-year contract last March following stints with the Sharks and Bulls.
