Nasreddine Nabi will finally present the work that he has been doing behind the scenes at Kaizer Chiefs hoping for improved fortunes.

Having gone two seasons without playing competition football, Kaizer Chiefs will finally play again on Saturday.

Nasreddine Nabi will have all eyes on him after Chiefs endured their worst season in the league, resulting in a trophy-less streak that lasted nine years.

The Naughty Mokoena: I was scared I would die in my sleep

In Saturday's league opener against Marumo Gallants in Bloemfontein, the coach will gain greater insight into what he has been doing behind closed doors.

Bradley Cross, Inacio Miguel, Gaston Sirino, Bongani Sam, Rushwin Dortley, Fiacre Ntwari, and Njabulo Blom provided the 'ingredients' Nabi needed in his role as the chef.

With input from the Tunisian-Belgian, these signings should improve on the yawn that dominated last season for the club under Molefi Ntseki and Cavin Johnson.

The club has spent millions on Cross, Miguel, Dortley, and Ntwari, so this has not been a free agent transfer window.

To score points, Chiefs will need to score more goals than they concede, win games, and do it playing good football, and all of this begins with Gallants on Saturday.

According to what he sees at training and injuries and work permits, Nabi will make selections at goalkeeper, defence, midfield and up front.

In the PSL era, this is the longest wait between two seasons the Soweto giants have endured.

Cape Town Spurs defeated Chiefs 2-0 in their last official match on May 25.

In 16 weeks, Amakhosi will have not played a competitive match, making it their longest wait ever.

The awkward situation that has given Nabi extra weeks has been caused by Chiefs' failure to qualify for the MTN8 and the subsequent postponement of the new league season.

In 2002 and 2010, Bafana Bafana went to the World Cup and had to wait longer between two campaigns.

Nabi's task will be to prepare his Chiefs team for a season that will include the league, Carling Knockout, and Nedbank Cup to end their trophy drought.
