PSL striker Lehlohonolo Majoro revealed a conversation he once had with former Stellenbosch FC defender Morgan Gould about the club's ambitious five-year plan.
At the end of his career, Gould made 11 appearances across all competitions for Stellenbosch FC during the 2019/20 season.
After being promoted from the Motsepe Foundation Championship, Stellenbosch made their debut in the SA top flight during the 2019/20 campaign. The Cape Winelands club has since then established itself as a formidable opponent in the Premier League.
In spite of this, the club's ambitious five-year plan ended last season. Nevertheless, the 2023/24 campaign proved to be their most successful. In addition to winning the Carling Knockout Cup, Stellenbosch finished third on the league table, qualifying for the CAF Confederation Cup for the first time ever.
GOULD REVEALS STELLENBOSCH’S FIVE-YEAR PLAN
Majoro said that Gould shared 'The Stellies' ambitious five-year plan. According to Gould, the club aims to win a trophy and sell at least four players to better teams."
As a result of this plan, Stellenbosch has not only won a trophy, but has also been able to transfer several players to larger clubs. A number of Stellenbosch players have moved on, including Iqraam Rayners, Ashley Du Preez, Deano van Rooyen, Antonio van Wyk, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Olwethu Makhanya, and Anicet Oura.
"I had the pleasure of speaking with Morgan Gould, who previously played for Stellenbosch. "He told me about the five-year plan that Stellenbosch had; it was not something that happened overnight.
According to my understanding, their five-year plan was to win one or two trophies and sell four players.
The plan worked, Steve Barker is doing a good job, and Stellenbosch is like a high-performance center in the Western Cape."
