South Africa maintained their perfect start to the Rugby Championship when they ground out a 30-12 win over Australia in a scrappy contest at a rain-drenched Perth Stadium on Saturday, live on Sky Sports.

A much-changed Springboks team backed up their convincing victory over the Wallabies last weekend with tries from Aphelele Fassi and Marco van Staden.

Fly-half Noah Lolesio kicked four penalties for Australia as they fared better in the physical contest than they did in Brisbane a week ago.

Lolesio's third minute penalty gave Australia the lead after they were blown off the park early in last week's 33-7 loss.

Springboks fly-half Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu and wing Makazole Mapimpi both fumbled the greasy ball in the early exchanges because of the torrential rain.

In the 17th minute, Australia spilled the ball at the breakdown, and the visitors capitalized on the error to score their first try.

Mapimpi's grubber gave Fassi a straight race against Australia's Andrew Kellaway to the line, the South African winning comfortably.

Lolesio and Feinberg-Mngomezulu exchanged penalties, with the Australian adding his third but missing a fourth to make it 11-9 at the break.

Following the restart, Van Staden scored from a rolling maul, but Lolesio's fourth successful penalty cut the lead to 18-12.

The Australians finally got a crosskick right in the 57th minute, and Max Jorgensen, making his debut as a replacement winger, showed his speed as he carried the ball 40 metres before his chip ahead was blocked.

South Africa got the next score, rolling replacement hooker Marx over the line on a maul in the 64th minute.

A second debutant, replacement flanker Sere Uru, was yellow carded for Australia in the final eight minutes, and Marx almost immediately scored his second try from another catch-and-drive.
